The UCDA has partnered with Centennial College to deliver Electric and Hybrid (EV) training to your staff and the UCDA is offering 50% off the cost of the basic programs!

The best part?  Centennial will come to you, whether you are in Thunder Bay, Windsor, Ottawa or the GTA! Some distance courses will involve an additional hotel and travel charge. Onsite visit will require a bay space.

Available to class sizes no larger than 12, basic offerings include:

High Voltage Safety CESD 110 (6 hours)

A perfect primer for sales, service and tech staff who may know very little about this unique form of motor vehicle, this course requires no technical knowledge, takes 6 hours, and costs $2300. The UCDA will pay 50% of that cost!

Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Introductory Overview CESD 109 (12 hours)

Your existing 310S service techs will benefit from this because it offers more detailed technical overview taking a total time of 12 hours at a cost of $4500. The UCDA will pay 50%!

CESD 110 plus Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Introductory Overview CESD 109 (18 hours)

Your existing 310S service techs will benefit from this because it adds to the basic introduction some more detailed technical overview taking a total time of 18 hours over 3 days at a cost of $6800. The UCDA will pay 50%!

Intermediate – as you can see in the chart below, for those dealerships that want a full training approach, there are additional options you can consider for your techs including CESD 111-114.

For dealers in the GTA, training on-site at Centennial may be preferred to save tying up a bay, and we would still offer 50% of the cost for the basic options, should that be the case. After taking these courses, Centennial will offer a College Certificate of Completion.

Reforming the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act

As readers of Front Line and other UCDA messaging know, plans have been in the works for some time to open up the MVDA for the first reforms since the “new” Act was put into force in 2010.

The Ministry has reached the consultation phase of that planning, and we were informed just recently that a deadline of May 21st has been set for responses on a series of proposed reforms.

The UCDA is diligently working on our draft responses to the suggestions, and we plan to ask UCDA Members for their thoughts, probably by way of a survey, in the coming weeks. This will help us fine-tune our final submission to the Ministry.

Please stay tuned for that. Meanwhile, here is the note from the Ministry that oversees OMVIC operations:

The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery is seeking feedback on a consultation paper exploring proposed changes to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002 and its regulations.

The ministry is consulting on proposals to:

  • Reduce burden for registrants;
  • Protect consumers;
  • Enhance registrant compliance and improve regulatory efficiency; and
  • Address other sector-specific issues.

You can find the consultation paper on Ontario’s regulatory registry: Modernizing the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act: Proposals to Reduce Burden, Improve Regulatory Efficiency, and Enhance Consumer Protection (ontariocanada.com).

The deadline to submit feedback to [email protected] is May 21, 2024 by 11:59 p.m. The ministry will consider all feedback received.
